Lip Flip or Lip Filler? How to Choose Between Them

Lip filler adds gel. Cleveland Clinic describes hyaluronic acid filler being placed in parts of the lips, including the edge and Cupid's bow. Describe whether you want more lip showing, more fullness or a clearer outline. Ask the provider to explain which treatment could address that feature.

Start with a goal, such as more upper lip visible in a smile or fuller upper and lower lips. Ask the provider to assess your lips at rest and in motion. AAD says a consultation may show that another procedure is more appropriate than filler. Leaving your lips as they are is also an option.

That makes a lip flip an off-label use of that product. Ask the prescriber to explain the reason, evidence and risks, and check the current label for the exact medicine.

Cleveland Clinic describes dissolving hyaluronic acid filler with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. The FDA warns that removal has its own risks and that some filler materials can be difficult or impossible to remove. Ask about the clinic's response to complications before agreeing to treatment.
